How do I describe myself? I’m a problem solver. I grew up in an engineering family and whilst I studied applied physics at University I am a frustrated engineer at heart. I’m also a translator. I’ve had the opportunity to work for Government, large and small businesses and Universities which has given me the opportunity to understand strengths and challenges in getting disparate organisations to work together. Oil and water do mix if you shake them vigorously. I frequently provide this energy. I also understand that you can be smarter and use chemicals to have the same effect. Together what does it mean? I like solving difficult problems and finding the compromises. My biggest motivation is being told you can’t do something.

This took me a long, long time to understand but I am naturally biased towards new products and new markets, an area that most product and marketing books tell you not to do. Again it’s the problem solving bit that draws me.

Beyond work I’ve a family of three children in their twenties and will shortly become a grandfather for the first time. Ice hockey was a serious pursuit in our family with two out of the three children playing at serious levels.

Lisa (my long suffering wife) and I have three working cocker spaniels. The youngest two are under two years old, still in deep training (this is my optimism coming out) but full of energy and fun. Love them to bits.

Other conversations with me? I’m a serial petrol head with too many cars from the 60s to the 90s. I get real satisfaction in putting a car back on the road after a period of slumber.

Finally I can’t forget music - live and recorded music are passions. If you’re ever away on business with me I will manage to find a used record shop. Occasionally having to buy new luggage to transport the “haul”.
