Why do you refer to yourself in the plural? What's up with the use of all the "we" and "us" language?
In no particular order, a few of the reasons are .....
My life has been, and still is, about wearing lots of hats ... husband, father, grandfather, friend, family member, occasional businessman, advisor, mentor, collaborator, Christian, fan of certain types of entertainment but not a fan of some others, neighbor, citizen, American, and even more. All of these are rolled into one person, me. At different times and under different circumstances, one of them might be more in the forefront than some others.
My track record is covered with successes and failures. Thankfully, the successes outweigh the failures, although some of the best most valuable learning came with failing. The relationships which have formed with me as a part of this journey are highly valuable for me, and one hopes valuable for the others involved as well. Rarely does anything get done alone. Others jump in, come in, are invited in, invite me in, or otherwise turn the "I" into "We."
Using the word, "I" too much focuses the mind directly on the self, at the expense of focus on others. That leads toward thinking it's all about me. It is not all about me.
Oh yeah ... my name is Thomas R. Holt. Friends and family call me "Tommy." Some very fine people call me "Dad." A little girl has mastered the word, "Pops." Her younger sister is just getting started with a variety of sounds. Others might use the term "Uncle." A really really special person calls me "Honey" and a few other things. A few friends call me "T" without prior authorization. A few colleagues call me "T-Rex," which is okay except the short-arm-dinosaur analogy might need some thought. I get a few offerings of "Mr. Holt" now and then. Others refer to me as "Partner." Being from the South, some younger folks occasionally use "Mr. Tommy." All of those, and more, are me.
About that magazine cover up there. That's back when my career-corporate-guy father-in-law said I "was somebody." :) That's one of the somebody's I am ... or at least was.
